MonaBike is the Principality of Monaco’s own automated electric bicycle share
scheme, run by the Prince’s Government and the bus company CAM. In
addition to MonaBike, there are also seven daytime bus routes, two night bus
routes, and a water bus that ferries passengers across Port Hercule. These
extensive public transport services are part of a policy aimed at reducing
greenhouse gas emissions while improving shared mobility and quality of life in
the Principality.
Introduced in 2010 and launched commercially in 2013, the electric
bicycle share pilot scheme has now been developed fully, with twice the number
of stations, and three times the number of bikes and docks. The new system has
been up and running in the Principality since 13 July 2019. It is currently operated
by Canadian company PBSC, which runs similar schemes in 32 cities around the
world, including Montreal, London, New York, and Barcelona. With 2,100 subscribers and 342,000 journeys in 2020, MonaBike has proven a great success with four times as many users.
The Monabike scheme has nearly 350 bicycles and 49 stations. Wherever they are going in the Principality, users can find stations
near their point of departure and their destination. The service is open to
subscribers, as well as occasional users aged over 16.

Once you have created your online account from your smartphone or via
the MonaBike website, all you need to pick up a bike straight away is the
Android or iOS app and your bank card.
How it works
- Choose your package on the monabike.mc website or directly in the
downloadable PBSC app;
- Collect a bike by holding your contactless CAM card by the dock or use
your smartphone to scan the QR code on the bike via the app;
- Return your bike to a free dock at any station. The green light on the
dock confirms that your journey has been completed. Within a few minutes, you
will receive an email confirming that your bike has been returned. If you do
not receive the email, please call +377 97 70 22 15. If there is no answer,
leave a message with your contact details.
