Herculis EBS Meeting

The night Monaco touched the stars at the Herculis EBS Meeting

The Meeting Herculis EBS 2025 is a major event in world athletics. This exceptional competition, organised by the Monegasque Athletics Federation under the aegis of HSH Prince Albert II, will set the track of the Stade Louis II alight on Friday 11 July 2025.

A strategic stage in the Wanda Diamond League, this event is ideally positioned two months before the Tokyo World Championships.

Its impressive track record - 7 times crowned best meeting in the world and the setting of 9 world records- makes it an unmissable event in the 2025 athletics calendar.

Swedish pole vaulting prodigy Mondo Duplantis will be gracing the 2025 Herculis EBS Meeting with his presence. After an exceptional season in 2024, during which he pushed the limits of the world record on 3 occasions, peaking at 6m26 in Chorzów and winning Olympic gold in Paris, the champion will be aiming for another exceptional performance in Monaco. The bar of 6m02, the meeting record set by Piotr Lisek in 2019, could well be shaken by the onslaught of the Scandinavian virtuoso .

This event is part of the extended programme of the 16th Wanda Diamond League, a prestigious circuit of 15 meetings spread over 13 nations between April and September, of which Monaco is the 10th stage.

How it all began...

The origins of the Meeting Herculis EBS date back to the mid-1980s, and its destiny is closely linked to the creation of the Stade Louis II.

The Monegasque Athletics Federation was created in 1984, and Prince Albert II, who was hereditary prince at the time, was its President from the outset. That same year, it was officially affiliated to the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations, now World Athletics). Until then, athletics had been a club of AS Monaco, associated with France, with no national identity.

In May 1985, just a few months after its inauguration by Prince Rainier III, the Stade Louis II hosted the very first WFA event. A two-day match between Germany, France, the United States and Italy. The following year, another match was organised between France, Poland and Italy.

Although the organisation of these matches was a success for the FMA, their results were less than stellar. The public wanted to see the biggest stars , but they did not want to take part.

After numerous meetings, a decision was taken:
No more matches, but a meeting. The Herculis was born!

The legend...

In September 1987, around 80 athletes of all nationalities answered the Principality's call. On the programme were traditional events (100 metres, 110 metres hurdles, pole vault...) and the "Challenge Mondial de l'Heure". In association with the daily newspaper l'Equipe, the FMA organised a race in which athletes covered the greatest possible distance in one hour, with a world record to beat. This format was never repeated in the Principality.

The meeting really took off in 1989, when it hosted the world final of the IAAF Mobil Grand Prix, bringing together the world's best athletes.
18,000 spectators, 350 journalists and 30 national television channels were present to witness this edition, and launch the legend.

Since its creation 36 years ago, Monaco's meeting place for world athletics has gone from strength to strength. And it has attracted crowds and athletes alike. Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis and Marie-José Pérec, to name but a few, have all left their mark on the Louis-II tartan.

The Herculis has been voted the best meeting in the world seven times (1998, 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2020), has been a member of the prestigious and elitist Diamond League since 2010, and has set countless world records...

Monaco has a date with excellence, so get in the front row to applaud the athletes!
