Monaco E-Prix
A double coup
In 2025, for the first time, the Principality of Monaco will host 2 rounds of the 11th season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship over the same weekend.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the electric single-seater championship on the Circuit de Monaco, spectators will have the opportunity this year to experience 2 days of motorsport, on a track that saw almost 200 overtakes during the last edition.
With a brand new version of the electric cars, the "GEN3 EVO" (0-100 km/h in 1.82 seconds) and 17 races on the programme this season, Formula E is entering a new era.
As spectacular as ever from a sporting point of view, the Monaco E-Prix is also a popular event. There will be plenty of entertainment at the Allianz Fan Village on Quai Antoine 1er.
An idea becomes reality
On the evening of 3 March 2011, FIA President Jean Todt and Spanish businessman and Formula E President Alejandro Agag met in a Paris restaurant. They shared their ideas, scribbling notes on a napkin, about what was to become the world's first electric single-seater championship: the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Formula E's mission is to race on the streets of the world's most iconic cities - with a grid packed with motorsport's best drivers and teams - to show what sustainable mobility is capable of. By putting electric vehicles at the forefront of a better, cleaner future.
Evolution or Revolution?
September 2014 saw the launch of the first season of Formula E, which initially took the form of a monotype category accepting only one model (comparable with Formula 2). Since 2015, Formula E has allowed manufacturers to produce their own engines, as well as various components (gearbox, rear axle, electronic management unit).
The evolution of this event is very noticeable, with ever more efficient cars and technologies.
For the 2018/2019 season, the Gen2 cars have been unveiled to replace the Gen1s. These restyled electric rockets offer more power, increasing from 180kW (240hp) to 250kW (335hp) with a top speed of 280km/h.
Formula E reinvents motor racing, bringing new tactical aspects with the ATTACK MODE. It's a challenge for teams and drivers: Leaving the optimal trajectory to launch ATTACK MODE but being rewarded with a power boost for a few laps.
Not to mention the fact that this is the only sport in the world where fans can influence the outcome of the race by voting for their favourite driver and allowing him to benefit from extra mechanical performance during the race: the 'Fan Boost'.
Faster and faster...
The 2022/2023 season marks the arrival of the third iteration of these single-seaters: Gen3!
Having learnt the lessons of 8 years of electric racing, a 350Kw (470hp) vehicle capable of reaching 320km/h has just been produced. Compared with the first generation, this new model is 75% more powerful and has a top speed that's 95km/h faster!
The Monaco E-Prix, an annual event
At the 1st Monaco E-Prix in May 2015, these new-generation cars took to the streets of the Principality on a reduced circuit, as the first generation of Formula E cars did not have enough range to take on the full circuit used by Formula 1.
The electric single-seaters have been racing on the full circuit since 2021, underlining the technological progress made by the sport since its creation.
After being held in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022, the Monaco E-Prix will become an annual fixture of the ABB Formula E World Championship following validation in June 2021 by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council.
1800 parking spaces
The Parking des Salines located at the western entrance to the Principality, opposite the Jardin Exotique, can accommodate motorised spectators, offering easy access to the circuit as well as preferential rates.
The Circuit de Monaco can be reached either on foot, in 15 minutes, by taking the Galerie des Salines and following a meticulously signposted footpath, or by using the shuttle buses, which are free on presentation of a car park ticket and provided specially by the Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco.
These will run every 10 minutes, from 8am to 8pm, from the Parking des Salines to avenue Albert II in Fontvieille. Spectators will then be able to reach the Place d'Armes and the Circuit de Monaco in just a few minutes on foot or by taking the lifts.
We encourage spectators with reduced mobility to use this option.
