A unique musical experience in Monaco

Attending the Concerts at the Prince's Palace is like experiencing classical music in Monaco in a very special place. The prestige of the Cour d'Honneur of the Prince's Palace, the warm summer evenings and the artistic quality of the OPMC combine to create a rare experience, where the encounter between Monegasque heritage and the great works of the repertoire takes on a very special dimension.

The history of the Concerts at the Prince's Palace

The Concerts at the Prince's Palace have a long history. The idea of holding concerts in the Cour d'Honneur of the Prince's Palace was born in 1959, reviving an age-old tradition of the Grimaldis, protectors of the arts and music.

Prince Rainier III took up and modernised the old tradition of "giving music" in the Courtyard. From the very first season, four evenings were programmed on 19, 22, 25 and 29 August 1959, conducted by Paul Paray, with works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Strauss. The Cour d'Honneur is also impressive for its remarkable acoustics, enhanced by a setting steeped in history.

Carefully thought out, from the orchestra's set-up to the reception of the public, the lighting and the broadcasting, these concerts contributed very early on to the reputation of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years, they have become one of Monaco's major summer events.
