Getting around Monaco by car
Driving in Monaco
Monaco largely follows the French Highway Code in its day-to-day traffic rules: the speed limit is 50 km/h, road signs are similar to those found in France, and the legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/L.
Several routes allow visitors to explore Monaco by car and travel between districts: the famous Louis-II tunnel (used during the Grand Prix) connects Port Hercule to the boulevard du Larvotto and the avenue Princesse Grace, the two roads that run along the coastline and Monaco's seaside area. In the south of the Principality, the Larvotto tunnel, the avenue d'Ostende, the avenue Albert II, and the rue Grimaldi provide access to the Monaco-Ville district (home to the Prince's Palace, the Cathedral, and the Oceanographic Museum) or the Fontvieille district – the area where the Princess Grace Rose Garden, the Stade Louis II, and the Heliport are located.
Parking in Monaco
Outside Monaco-Ville, there are options for parking on the surface in Monaco: around 1,000 outdoor parking spaces, managed by the Monaco Municipal Police, free of charge for electric vehicles, and subject to a fee via pay-and-display machines for petrol and diesel vehicles.Underground, the Principality of Monaco has a network of around forty public car parks, most of them underground, providing parking close to the city's points of interest. The Grimaldi Forum Digue car park, La Condamine, Place d'Armes, the Station car park… the entire Principality is covered by these paid spaces, which can be booked on the Monaco Parkings website. The Salines park-and-ride car park, a new concept for Monaco, offers not only parking spaces but also access to preferential rates for travelling by shuttle bus when getting around Monaco. The perfect way to explore with a clear head!
Car sharing in Monaco
Many of Monaco's car parks are partners of the Mobee service, an electric vehicle car-sharing scheme that allows you to travel around Monaco by car with no parking costs and no carbon emissions. The various cars in the Mobee fleet can be booked in just a few clicks via the Mobee by Smeg app. The ideal solution for using a car in the city only when truly necessary.
