By
nature, the events industry’s main role is about creating temporary projects. Events of this kind require considerable
logistics and equipment, but only for a very limited period. As a result, the
Business Tourism sector is often criticised as an ethically dubious source of
economic growth.
The
Principality of Monaco has pledged to do everything possible, to ensure that
its tourism industry actively commits to cutting its carbon footprint, with the
country targeting carbon neutrality by 2050.
To
help event planners adopt a more sustainable approach, the Monaco Tourist and
Convention Authority has produced an online guide, available in both French and
English. When organising an event, it’s vital to consider the environmental
impact right from the outset. The guide will let industry professionals
identify which aspects of their event are responsible for the highest
greenhouse gas emissions, find solutions to limit the event’s footprint, and
take a more sustainable, more responsible approach.
